In addition festo offers sensors such as the sensor that have been developed for precise and reliable contact sensing and special tasks. Festo s proximity sensors are sensors specially optimised for use with festo drives and indicate the position of the piston rod. These proximity sensors are the predecessors of the cylinder switches for t slots and are therefore mainly used in existing systems. Smat continuously and contactlessly record the movement of the piston in the position measuring range and output that information as a standardised analogue current or voltage signal.

Proximity sensors in block design can only be used on tie rod cylinders and are available as reed and electronic variants.
